Steve Finch and James Martin Appointed Vice Presidents

Will Smith11 Nov - 09:50

Recognising years of service from two of our finest

At the AGM, the club also awarded two new Vice Presidents to the club's pantheon. The dynamic duo of Steve Finch and James Martin! Two real clubmen, who have given so much to the club over the years.

Steve was a member of the Horton House under 13 side that swept to a thrilling victory in the 1981 County Cup Final versus Northampton Saints. Few could have predicted that some 44 years later he would still be representing the Club.
In 1982, Steve won the Jim Wolstenholme Award, having made his debut in the Horton Senior side that year – representing the 3rd XI at Kislingbury.

He was elected Sunday 1st XI Captain in 1989 & 1990. And became the youngest ever captain of the Saturday 2nd XI, when he was elected to the role in 1991. In 2007 he succeeded Simon Dadge as Club Captain and enjoyed two years at the helm. He was an integral member of the Horton team that beat Stony Stratford in the final of the NCA Cup at the County Ground. He has served on the Exec’ Committee. In 1988 he was elected Assistant Secretary and rejoined more recently as Director of Cricket.

Some highlights from his playing days include taking 6 for 62 vs ONs 2nd XI in 1988 and 7 for 29 vs Old Wellingburians in the 1st XI in 1995. He dismissed Stephen Fleming (future captain of New Zealand) for a duck in 1993. He is by far & away the leading wicket taker in the history of the Club’s 2nd XI.

James Martin has been an integral part of Horton House for many years, contributing both on and off the field in ways that have had a lasting and positive impact. Throughout his time with the Club, he has demonstrated not only a passion for cricket but also a genuine belief in the importance of developing the next generation of players.

James has remained a constant supporter of the Club’s wider activities — attending fixtures across all levels, assisting with events and fundraising initiatives, and offering practical help whenever needed. He has been a familiar and encouraging presence (in good times and bad) around the ground. His ongoing interest in the Club’s progress — from match results to community events. Well done Jimmers.
