Horton travelled away to Northampton School for Boys to take on Old Northamptonians. After electing to bat first, House were quickly 5-2 after a great opening spell from the home side bowlers. Amitesh Nagarkar (28) and Thad Tucker (54) batted with grit and purpose to put on 111 for the 3rd wicket before they fell in quick succession. With a platform set, Horton failed to launch and lost wickets in clusters. It was skipper Will Knibbs’ 30 that provided some resistance before Horton were dismissed for 192. A long way short of par.
With no scoreboard pressure to aide the bowlers, the ON’s openers made hay - reaching 99 for the first wicket - before Wolstenholme was caught off Moffat for a well constructed 41. From there, the other opener Vesty continued to find the boundary and reached 103 before Tom Knibbs claimed his wicket. The home side ran out victors by 8 wickets. This week the 1sts travel to Weekley & Warkton CC.
At Denton Road the 2nd XI welcomed Harlestone CC. Horton won the toss and elected to bat first on the flat Denton Road deck. Anshul Poothi and Asim Rahman opened the batting, Asim got Horton off to a quick start before he was caught on 34 off 26 balls. Anshul would find support in Vignesh Sudhakar with the youngsters developing a strong partnership. After Sudhakar fell for 28, Vishal Mistry would then support Poothi with 23 before Anshul was finally bowled for an excellent 77. His first senior fifty for Horton. The home team were bowled out for 231.
The visitors also took a liking to the wicket and set about the chase. It wasn’t until the introduction of off-spinner Dylan Martin (1-57) that Horton found success. From there, Mitchell Boffin picked up 2-37 with a decent spell and Asim Rahman 1-15. Harlestone closed in on victory but not before Jake Monk (1-53) claimed a victim. Harlestone ran out the winners by 5 wickets.
Our 3rd XI were at home against Kettering Town. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. There was immediate success for James Hawksworth (2-57) and further wickets for Ian Street (2-46) but Kettering rebuilt and put together some decent partnerships. Dharpan Bhalerao (2-21) kept Horton going as he held back the tide. Kettering finished on 236-6 from their 40 overs.
Horton gave the chase a real go and set about building a strong opening partnership. Anvit Arkanath (40) and Andrew Thacker (45) put on 104 for the 1st wicket. Mike Macdonnell picked up the reigns with a classy 42 but Horton were unable to capitalise on the platform. Eventually being dismissed for 200.
The 4th XI were at home to Wellingborough OGs. Skipper Paul Wolstenholme won the toss and elected to bowl. The youngsters responded well and OG’s were soon reeling after Joe Falkner (5-2-8-1) and slow left armer Yash Kumawat (4-38) blew away the top order. Elliot Holmes then came on and took 5-1-13-3 to keep the momentum with Horton. Harry Street (1-6) took the final wicket as the visitors were dismissed for 124.
The chase was set underway by Alan Pitt and Rick Falkner. The pair took apart the openers before Alan was bowled for 18. Rick eased through the gears and ended up on 82* off 46 balls with Mohan Arkanath 11* as House ran out victors by 5 wickets.
