A tough week for The House

Horton House 1st XI travelled away to Weekly and Warkton. Losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Horton got off to a steady start with Tom Knibbs (19) and Kiron Das (28) putting on 50 for the first wicket. From there, Thad Tucker (29) started to find the boundary before he was run out with a direct hit. A collapse then followed as Horton fell from 113-3 at drinks to 132 all out in a disappointing run of dismissals.

The total was never going to be competitive, and the home side batsmen started strongly after a couple of early appeals. With no scoreboard pressure, bowling was tough. Young Ben Meachem (1-29) on his 1st XI debut bowled with good pace in his spell and took out the Weekly opener – gloved behind to a back of a length snorter. A wicket for Finley Moffat followed but the damage was done as Weekley ran out victors by 8 wickets.

Our 2nd XI were at home to Sun Hardingstone CC. Asim Rahman won the toss and elected to bat first on a warm afternoon. House lost early wickets but Asim (14) and his son Raif (16) formed the beginnings of a partnership before both falling in quick succession. From there Horton lost wickets in clumps and were bowled out for 85.

With such a small total to defend, the bowlers had a tough job. Abhinav Iarala rose to the challenge on his 2nd XI debut and picked up 2-16 in his opening spell. There was another brace for Dharpan Bhalerao (2-15) but Hardingstone passed the finish line only 4 down.

The 3rd XI were away to Kislingbury Temperance and batted first after winning the toss. Rick Falkner and Andrew Thacker (31) formed a steady opening partnership. After Andrew was caught, Mike Macdonnell play the foil to Rick’s hitting and compiled a well made 42. Paul Wolstenholme then played the supporting role as Rick reached his century before being caught for 128. Horton closed out the innings on 244.

Chasing a big total, but on a small ground – Kislingbury started well and saw off the openers well. Only Paul Wolstenholme (10-2-45-0) found some control as the boundaries flowed. Harry Street (1-31) picked up the only wicket as Kislingbury reached the total only one wicket down.
