This week saw us face last years champions at Denton Road.
We were asked to have a bowl first, and a changed bowling attack due to the absence of two seamers from the Peterborough game, we got off to a great start with Finedon reduced to 107-5. Wickets for Will Smith, Finlay Moffat, Elijah Glover and two for the impressive Will Charter (7 overs 2-19).
Unfortunately, the strength in depth of Finedon’s batting lineup meant that Greig Hofbauer and Jack Chopping were still at the crease. They compiled a quick fire unbroken 169 run partnership before the declaration came at 276-5 off 45 overs.
In reply, with 55 overs to chase at Horton, we set about what was a gettable target despite the opponents.
Whilst Alex Mills departed early, Ewan Cox and Ben Coddington put on a century for the second wicket before the latter was bowled for 40.
Cox continued to accelerate his innings before being the next wicket to fall for another great knock of 80 (76 balls).
From that point despite starts from a number of the middle order, we continued to lose wickets, and when Liam Redding was last man out for 34, we finished 216 all out, with 8 overs left.
Next week sees us travel to current league leaders Brigstock.
