On a warm day at Finedon, the home side won the toss and asked us to have a bowl, hoping to pile on the runs and please the big crowds that had gathered for their sponsors day. The bowlers worked hard to try to prevent this and at 62-5 it looked like a low total could be on the cards. Openers Will Knibbs (3-42) and the impressive Jay Parmar on debut (2-38) putting the Finedon batting lineup on the back foot from the off.
Unfortunately, as the ball got older the runs were easier to come by for Finedon's middle order, and some sensible batting coupled with exploiting the small boundary on one side saw them eventually bowled out in the final over for 261. Despite the score getting away from us a little it was a fine fielding and bowling effort once more.
In reply, Horton lost Gupta early, but a solid partnership from Karan Parmar (29) and Alex Mills (28) saw us 66-1, and although behind the rate it was a good position to target each batting milestone we were looking for.
In an all too familiar occurrence, some impressive spin bowling from the home side, aided by some poor decision making from the middle order, saw us collapse once again to 103-7. Some late resilience from Henry Warren and Will Knibbs (25*) enabled us to gain a batting point, but unfortunately the last two wickets fell in quick succession as we were chasing a second, and we finished 153 all out.
Next week we are back at Denton Road to face Brigstock.
