Scorcher at Billing Road

On another roasting hot day ONs won the toss and elected to bat. With a few changes from the previous week, Horton welcomed back Tim Burt playing his first game for the first team in over 9 years.

Horton started well, Will Knibbs picking up two early wickets to leave ONs 24-2. All of the bowlers worked hard in tough conditions, and while experienced pair Rob White and Richard Kaufman compiled a 79 run stand for the third wicket, they were made to work hard for their runs which is testament to the effort put in by the whole side in the field.

White would go on to make a run-a-ball 86 showing that when you got yourself in with the bat there was reward for patience. Horton continued to look for wickets and cut down run scoring opportunities, and despite two wickets from returning seamer Matt Chalcraft, and two good spells from Will Charter, ONs posted 282-7 from there 50 overs.

In reply, when Karan Parmar was caught behind off a fiery delivery, Horton were 2 down early as well. Tim Burt and Prabodh Kakodkar set about rebuilding the innings and had put on a composed 33 before Tim was, perhaps harshly, adjudged LBW. Losing another quick wicket, John Wolstenholme joined Prabod and they put on a quick 40 with John scoring an attacking 25 before he went for one shot to many and was caught at mid on.

From then on, only Will Charter showed some resilience, finishing 12 not out, as he enabled Prabod to reach a well constructed 52 before he was ninth man out. Horton were all out for 133, ONs winning by 149 runs.
