On another ideal day for cricket, faced with a quick outfield and a typical Horton batting wicket, skipper Will Knibbs won the toss and put Wollaston into bat.
Early wickets from Will Charter put Wollaston under pressure, but their innings was held together by an unbeaten hundred from opener Matthew Jones as he guided them to 272-3 off 50 overs. It was another day where chances did not seem to fall our way, despite a good fielding effort in the sweltering heat.
In reply, Alex Mills and Prabod Kakodkhar batted very sensibly for a 44 run opening partnership. As Prabod was dismissed, Millsy continued to bat well first with Ben Coddington and then Ben Wall. At 76-2 we had set a solid base to build on and give us a good chance in reply.
What followed over the next half an hour saw us reduced to 85-8 through a combination of poor shot choices and some intelligent bowling. Alex Mills 4th man out looked in good touch for his 50.
The Wills Smith and Knibbs put up some resistance, moving the score onto 113 before Smith was judged to be lbw. The Australian opening bowler took the final wicket to leave us 118 all out.
Next week we travel to Rushden and Higham.
