On what was another stunning day to play cricket at Denton road, the home skipper one the toss and asked the visitors to bat.
The opening pair of Will Charter and Will Knibbs both made early breakthroughs, and with new signing Karan Parmar also chipping in with 2 wickets, Desborough were reduced to 129-7. The Desborough overseas made a timely 44 not out to boost the score, but the away side were eventually bowled out for 202 in the 50th over. Wickets were shared amongst all the bowlers, the pick of whom was Will Charter with 4-46 from his 10 overs.
In reply Alex Mills and Karan Parmar (on debut) opened the innings. Losing Alex and Phil Monkman early brought Andrew Neate to the crease making his first league appearance of the season.
He produced one of his trademark attacking displays, compiling a 51 run partnership with Karan (Neate 45), and also 64 with Harry Dube (24). Both Harry and Karan batted with great maturity, giving Neaty a platform to dominate the opposition bowlers.
Another quickfire 23 from James Redding took us to 188-6. With 15 runs required Will Smith joined Neaty at the crease with him 98 not out. Will allowed Andrew to finish the job, ending on a superb 113 not out off 96 balls (17 fours, 3 sixes).
It was a win both the players and DOC Paul Ruff, along with everyone else at the club, have been waiting a long time for and it was great to see such a positive atmosphere at the club once again.
We now look to build on this win when we travel to Old Northamptonians next week, a tough fixture but one we have done well in of late.
