Saturday cricket has many pros and cons, but unfortunately for us, it was the Pro of Northampton Saints that took the opportunity to score 167 off 121 balls against us this weekend.
After winning the toss, we asked the opposition to have a bat, sensing our best chance to pick up points was to collect as many wickets as possible before attempting to chase the target.
After a quiet start, recently contracted Northants Professional Emilio Gay quickly went through the gears before he was eventually dismissed by Karan Parmar for an impressive 167. He was well supported by most of his fellow teammates, and despite our bowlers continuing to work hard for wickets, the target was set at a daunting 374-8. This perhaps could have been more had we not removed Emilio with over 6 overs to go.
Karan Parmar was the pick of the bowlers with 3-51 from his 10 overs.
In reply, after a solid start, with Aditya Gupta scoring an aggressive 87 at the top, we again lost too many cheap wickets in the middle order, before a valuable partnership between Henry Warren and Will Charter guided us to 2 batting points. We were all out for 199, Henry with a valuable 25 not out.
A loss by 175 runs, but ultimately take a professional out of the game and you have a good game.
Next week we face table-toppers Peterborough Town at Home.
