Horton complete unwanted double

Horton won the toss and elected to bowl on a day that had already started badly with the captain having his car reversed into.

Things looked to be on the up as Jay Parmar struck early once again, but ex Horton player Jack Johnson, along with Praveen Chandran, rebuilt the Wollaston innings with a stand of 76. Will Knibbs took two in an over before another partnership from Wollaston, this time Monteith stuck with Johnson until he was caught on the boundary off Will Charter for 76.

An agressive 46 from Wollaston's number 8 saw them push on towards 200 before Jay and Karan Parmar picked up 3 more wickets between them, Elijah Glover taking the final wicket as Wollaston were all out for 202.

Jay Parmar picked up 3-53, Karan Parmar 2-44 and Will Knibbs 2-45 in their 10 over spells.

In reply we lost an early wicket, but Karan and Rick Falkner batted sensibly, punishing the bad balls and rotating strike well as they put on 77 for the second wicket. 84-1 suddenly became 110-5, before Harry Dube joined Jay Parmar. Batting with an injury that has turned out to be both a broken bone and hairline crack in his thumb from keeping, Dube showed great pride and determination to contribute to a 36 run partnership with Jay.

Unfortunately, as has been the case all too often this year, we lost a flurry of wickets in quick succession, and from 146-5 we were all out for 156.

A loss by 46 runs leaves us third bottom, 20 points above home side Wollaston, who took their second win of the season, both against us.

We move on to Rushden at home next week knowing we need to work hard for every point in a vitally important last 5 weeks of the season.
