After losing Alex Mills early, Karan Parmar and the returning Rick Falkner played exceptionally well to put on a 91 run stand, setting a platform for the rest of the team to build from. Once again it looked unlikely that Alex Mills was going to make his one new friend for the week, with six weeks to go he's now looking for 9 to meet the target set at the Peterborough game.
As is customary, we had a mini middle order collapse, falling to 112-5 having been 97-1. Karan was the first to fall for 29, before Rick also fell for a well made 53. Wickets were falling faster than the exchange rate when Boris took charge, but thankfully Harry Dube and Jay Parmar batted sensibly to settle the ship somewhat. The lower order worked hard and thanks to 21 from Dube as well as run a ball 30s from Parmar and Will Knibbs - including a lovely seven iron with a slight draw into the breeze, we were eventually all out for 221.
Suffice to say it was a nice change from the 36-9 we scored against Brigstock in the return fixture!
After yet another fantastic tea, we were prepared for a season defining 50 overs, knowing next weeks opponents Wollaston were once again up against it facing Oundle.
Once again Jay Parmar produced a fantastic opening spell after captain Knibbs had suggested he (told him he had to) run into the wind from the pavilion end. Knibbs also picked up the wick of Suk Singh who had scored 124 in the return game, and Brigstock were reduced to 52-4. Jay would finish with 3-40 from his 9 overs.
A period of calm ensued, with Karan Parmar bowling a fine spell of leg spin in support of Will Charter who bowled fantastically into the gale. They put on 49 for the 5th wicket before Charter eventually broke the partnership with a delightful half tracker that was spooned into the waiting hands of Elijah Glover at square leg. 101-4 quickly became 112-7, Elijah Glover coming into the attack and picking up the wicket of Brigstock Overseas Tashwin Lukas for 0.
Brigstock's injured number 7 started to hit out, but Karan and Elijah bowled excellently in tandem, supported by some spirited fielding in testing conditions, and we bowled out Brigstock to win by 59 runs. A big victory in terms of the league.
A win next week against bottom side Wollaston should give us a large buffer going into the last 5 games of the season. We go again.
