10 players just wasn't enough

A tough return fixture of the rivals Burton Latimer this Sunday wasn't sought after, when we only had 10 players available, however hopes were high after Burton had conceded previous games due to lack of players. As the teams started to arrive it seemed as though Burton were there to pull out all the stops to beat the rivals, putting out a very strong 10 against us.

With a decision for Horton to bowl first, a spin and seam attack to open was our chosen approach. A hard wicket seemed to play favour to the batting side with some quick runs made and a protective field leading to some quick singles in the middle. When the first wicket came, a stabilisation seemed not to be on the cards however Burton Latimer battled on to finish 250-5 off the 45 overs.

A big total to get but a reachable one after previous performances with the bat this season. Openers Florence Miller and Abigail Passmore knew they needed to battle hard to keep up with the run rate. Unfortunately, a quick flurry of wickets came, leaving us 29-3 but a stabilising partnership of 57 from Abigail Passmore and Simone Marais, gave us some hope of a tight game with a potential win. Unfortunately a fall of another wicket was imminent just before drinks and another flurry soon came meaning we were left 135-7.
In the end Horton finished all out for 136 however some good performances from individuals in a difficult situation shone through; we work hard to improve next week facing another tough opposition with low availability
