Horton House Ladies finally had their first game of the season. We turned up to the East Northants side T Starting with 8, and offer of Thrapston’s 12th player we won the toss and elected to bowl. We took to the field confident and optimistic that we could make something happen early on.

Opening bowlers Honor Austin and Clara Wakeford bowled well with good lines and lengths, but Thrapston’s opening batters were a good match until Clara, getting the first wicket in the fourth over. 1st Change Lily Buckley, playing her first Senior game, and Sasha Wakeford continued the good spells with Lily proudly getting her first wicket with figures of 2-0-9-1. Libby Griffiths, Sophie Bendon and Emma Brown as second and third changes all bowled well and picked up a wicket apiece. Honor and Clara finished the bowling innings with and with figures of 7-1-19-3 and 8-3-23-2 retrospectively. Thrapston all out for 146 in 36.2 overs.

Considering this was with 9 players and extreme heat the players can be proud of this performance.

Horton took to the field in response with Sophie Bendon and Sally Cory opening the innings. After a great display of hitting, they were 21 and 26 not out by the 8th over. Following first bowling change Sophie departed for a great 21 off 25 balls. Sally continued her good form, before being finally bowled for 27. Wickets continued to fall until Clara Wakeford came to the crease with clean and powerful striking. A few more wickets saw last batter Andrea Barnett came to the crease who with Clara continued the fine batting display. Clara finished unbeaten after a blistering 18. Horton all out for 95.

It was a great team performance, everyone played their part, had fun and represented the Horton badge with great skill and determination. Special mention to Sophie Bendon for her first game as Captain who showed great capability and leadership. Thanks to Carole and Hannah for scoring, Mike for umpiring all game. Well done to all involved.
