The 2’s continued their 2026 Campaign with a home game against Great Houghton 2’s.

Having won the toss we decided to have a bowl first.

We welcomed back the returning Harvey Cooke and Ryan Monk and congratulated Oliver Bartlett-Syree on making his 2nd team debut at the age of 15.

Looking to continue the momentum we created in the field last week we opened the bowling with veteran’s Kevin Taylor and Steve Finch. Both bowled well and were backed up extremely well in the field for the 3rd week running.

The Great Houghton batters however got off to a good start and had some good partnerships at the top order to find themselves 147-1 after 33 overs, with 12 overs left and 9 wickets in hand they had the foundation to go hard and put our bowlers and fielders under big pressure in the remaining 12 overs with 9 wickets still in hand.

We however responded so well to the situation we found ourselves in and bowled and fielded extremely well in the last phase of their innings, managing to restrict them to 201-6 off their 45 overs, which was a great effort by the bowlers who bowled in the last 12 overs and the whole fielding group.

The key moment seemed to be when Oscar Herbert bowled potential dangerman A Pandey with a well flighted leg spinner which deceived the batter in the flight and bowled him for a well made 68. He could have caused some real damage to us in the last 12 overs if we didn’t get him out and instead of chasing 201 we could have been chasing a lot more!.....

Elliot Cantrell 10-0-55-1) and Oscar Herbert 9-0-35-2 (Bowling the last 9 overs on the trot from one end).

Harvey Cooke and Krish Sainath opened the batting for us and the pair put on a solid and well made 78 partnership for the 1st wicket in 16 overs, before we lost Krish caught at mid-off for a well made 32.

Abhinav Kulur joined Harvey at the crease and they put on 13 before we lost Harvey bowled for a well made 49 to back up his first week hundred.

We lost AB with the score on 122 in the 25th over for 14. This brought Ryan Monk in to join Vignesh Sudhakar at the crease.
The pair put on a highly impressive 85* unbeaten run partnership in only 10 overs to see us to a 7 wicket win in 35th over with 10 overs still remaining.

Both Viggy and Ryan played some eye catching and classy shots as well as some powerful boundary blows. Both capitalised on any loose ball and they ran really well between the wickets.

Viggy finished with a well made and classy 50 not out (7 x 4’s) and Ryan a powerful 51 not out (4 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) with some very clean striking (bringing up his 50 with a lusty blow for 6 into the gardens).

It was a good all round team performance in all three facets of the game and we move onto week 4 looking to create the momentum we have created with an away fixture against Kislingbury 2’s.
