2's return to winning ways

The 2's returned to the home of cricket Denton Road to take on Stony Stratford.

Losing the toss for the 3rd successive time we were put into bat. Something we didn't mind knowing the quality of the Denton Road pitch.

Phil Monkman made a terrific start to his season with a perfectly balanced 87 not out. A 50 partnership with Riz Alam put us in a good position however if you have been reading the past reports you know what comes next. You guessed it, a classic collapse put us in a struggle and the possibility of leaving Monkman stranded. Then suddenly as our 8th wicket falls Graham Harris turns to us all and says "I'll be happy with 1 run" as he walks out to the middle. As he walks back from the middle he had accumulated 34 pivotal runs. A well rounded effort got us to 194.

As we stride out to the middle after tea it was the familiar good mood of the 2's. Having their first bowls of the season Will Charter and Dylan Martin clamped down on the Stony batsmen. Dylan Martin finishing with figures of 8 -1 -22 -1 and Will Charter a tremendous 7.3-5 -9-2. As wickets were needed the spin doctors came on and combined Dan Robinson and Ben Jordan had figures of 20 - 4 - 53 - 7. A superb partnership. Stony always struggling were finished off by Will Charter however a special mention to Morad Samaloussi who on his return took 4 catches at first slip. Something we are not used to seeing.

A truly great performance by everyone involved and an enjoyable day of cricket. The second team getting there second victory of the year and it was celebrated well.

It is onto Wellingborough Indians for the second team looking to get another victory and creep up the league table.
