The lads turned up on Saturday raring to go against Irchester who in recent times have always had the upper hand on us.
Winning the toss we decided to bat first.
We knew we needed a strong start and it's safe to say Ryan Turner gave us that. 3rd ball walking down the pitch to the seam bowler and hitting a huge six over mid wicket. Unfortunately his opening partner Tim Burt fell early however Kiron Das came to the crease determined to bat the innings.
The two both went on to get there 50's. Ryan fell shortly after his but some cameos from James Redding and Zahid Mirza allowed us to push on. Kiron Das the last man to fall in the 50th over after a superb innings of 67. Horton getting to 191. A total we were confident we could defend.
A good opening spell from Zane applied the pressure however a few too many extras allowed them to get on top of the run rate. The spinners clamped down on Irchester making the game hang in the balance. Every over momentum which switch. Coming into the last 10 overs, Irchester needed 4 an over, something we knew if we bowled tight would be hard to get.
Unfortunately due to a couple of good overs by Irchester's Harry Green allowed them to reach the total in the 47th over. It was a great effort from the boys however a few too many early extras allowed the game to be in their hands.
We can take our fielding and batting effort into next week in the most crucial game of the season vs Poddington at home. A must WIN!
