Great performance from BJ and Zahid

We arrived at a sunny Weldon 10 mins after they had had a deluge. The outfield was soggy and undulating and the track a little green but firm and dry having been covered.

Weldon won the toss and decided to bowl. We were confident of putting up a good account of ourselves with the team we had on paper.
The innings started slowly with Paul Wolstenholme given out LBW for 1 in the second over. A tight opening bowling spell from Morgan Potter and Zac Gillies meant the runs were hard to come by early on apart from 1 large six from Ryan Turner which went through the neighbours conservatory window!! At drinks after 15 overs we had only managed to reach 21-2!
However two good partnerships between Zahid Mirza and Graham Harris of 45 and Zahid and Ben Jordan of 52 put fresh impetus into the innings. Zahid batted superbly ending on 71 not out ably supported by Ben 23, Graham 13 and Harry Knibbs 16 got us up to 166-6 after 45 overs. This was a competitive total and something to bowl at.

After an awesome tea including chicken curry!! Weldon started their reply. An immediate breakthrough with Kev bowling the skipper Will Jones second ball of the innings 0-1 gave us hope straight away but then Paul Carruthers and Dave Freebody put together a partnership of 69 for the second wicket. Kev and Paul kept the runs down but couldn't breach the defences. 1st change Vignesh Sudhakar bowled well 0-25 but was punished for a couple of short deliveries. It took the wily 2nd team skipper Ben to get the wicket we needed having Freebody stumped by Harry for 43, 69 for 2. Two more wickets fell to Ben with the score on 75 and he got his fourth wicket with the total on 81. Weldon were now in trouble at 81 for 5. Ian Street then got in on the act taking 3 wickets for 25 off his 9 overs. The other two wickets fell to Zahid who finished the innings off with a spell of 3.1 overs 2-12. It was a great team performance in the field with some good catches taken (including the skipper at deep mid on at the third attempt!) and some excellent bowling from everyone. Pick of the bowlers Ben 9-2-30-4 and Ian 9-2-25-3 taking the plaudits.

This was a much needed win giving us 27 points and Weldon only 4.

We are now in touch with the two sides above us with 5 games still to play. A visit next from the bottom side Irchester on Saturday gives us a chance to get out of the relegation zone with another win .
