Entertaining 1st game at Home

We arrived to a sunny Grange Park to be greeted with the pitch and ground looking superb. Many thanks to Simon Dadge and his little helpers for producing a very good pitch.

Horton won the toss and put Old into bat.

A good start to the bowling saw James Dadge take 2 wickets in his first spell ( one bowled , the second an excellent catch behind by Chris Archer). Skipper Kev tied up the other end with some tight straight bowling, eventually persuading the umpire to give an LBW in his 8th over.
Old now 60-3. However a superb knock by Old,s J. Brightman of 101 took charge. A case of the Old man working the ball between the old fielders! The 4th wicket fell at 166 and despite some further good bowling from Finn Herrington, Ian Street and Elliott Cantrell Old went on to reach 263 for 6 in 45 overs.
The boys all chipped in with the ball taking a wicket each.

In reply we were quickly 2 down for 13 runs before Mike McDonnell and Ian settled the ship with a steady partnership. Bizarrely ended in a run out with Ian stranded going for a 3rd run.

Mike continued to form the backbone of the innings helped by Ish's quick fire 15 and Kev's 20 before falling for a superb 57 runs ( some magnificent offside shots included)

Kev stuck around helped by Finn's 10 and James' 12 before also being run out at the bowler's end. Horton's two Marathon experts both RUN OUT ! Obviously built for stamina , not speed between the stumps.

We eventually succumbed to Old's bowling being eventually all out for 165 in the 44th over.

Result Old win by 98 runs . Horton 5 pts Old 30 pts
