3rds lose to relegation zone rivals.

The 3rds arrived at Long Buckby knowing a win could see us climbing free of the relegation spots with 3 games to go.
Kev won the toss and decided to bowl first on a track that looked like it would suit the bowlers. Dylan Martin and Tom Hilton kicked off proceedings bowling well. Dylan bowling his first 7 overs for just 10 runs and missing the edge of the bat numerous times without having any luck. Tom also settled down after his first couple of overs and took the opening wicket with the score at 34 for1 caught at cover by Ian Street.Tom finished with impressive figures of 1-22 off his 6 overs. Skipper Kev and Ray Mirza came on 1st change but were soon halted by the rain causing a 30 minute delay in play. When we re-took the field Kev soon picked up the second wicket , 69 for 2. Ray bowled an excellent tight spell in his first 3rd team game and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket finishing with 0-20 off 7 overs. The skipper took himself off and turned to the spin of Vignesh and Ianand between the two of them we took another four wickets. Vignesh taking 2-33 of his 7 overs and Ian 2-43 off 7 overs including a super stumping from Harry Patel. Long Buckby were at that stage 147 for 6 before a swift 35 from Harris and 18 from Dias bringing their final total to 205 for 7 when Vignesh ran out Dias with the final ball.

After tea Horton set off on their chase with Mark Glover and Kev opening the batting. The skipper after a couple of quick boundaries was bowled by Church (an in-swinging Yorker that was too good for the skipper!)with the score at 14-1. Mike McDonnell joined Mark at the crease and the innings took shape and by the time we reached the drinks break we had reached 70 and the opening bowlers had been seen off. However everything changed quickly after drinks and when Mark was next out at 76 for 2 scoring a determined 22 the wickets fell like 9 pins. In the space of 3 overs we lost 6 wickets for just 8 runs including Mike for an impressive 36. With the score at 84 for 7 the tail wagged a little with 12 from Ted Flynn before being given out LBW and a partnership of 22 from Ray and Harry finishing 8 and 15 not out respectively and ensuring we got the score past the first batting point and we finished at 127 for 9 off 45 overs.
Long Buckby bowled well and Church and Dias being the main damage causers with impressive figures of 3-23 and 3-17 by the end of the innings.

Long Bucby won by 78 runs (28 points) Horton 4 points.

The result means we still have some work to do in our final 3 matches if we are to secure Division 8 cricket next season .

Next up is the return fixture against league leaders Barton Seagrave with Ian Street taking over the captaincy whilst Kev takes part in the Great North Run. Good luck to Ian and the boys!!!!

Kevin Taylor 3rd team Captain.
