The Legends were away at S & L Corby to take on their 3rd XI.
Anyone who has played there will know that it is the most exposed ground in the league and with temperatures looking to reach to more the 35 degrees C winning the toss Horton decided to bat. Opening the innings Dylan Martin and Graham Harris set up a solid foundation of 60 runs for Zahid Mirza to take us to 110 with Finn Herrington preventing the not-to-mention Horton middle-order collapse. Mitchell Boffin, Kevin Taylor and Paul Das put a gentle flurry at the end of the innings and Horton finished on 170 for 7.
A nice tea was had but the day was at its hottest when Kevin and Dylan opened the bowling. Dylan got us going with a wicket in the first over as did Kevin. Keeping an end tight with Kevin Elliot (I didn't get a bat so I want to bowl NOW) came on. Supported by catching from Harry Knibbs at mid-off Elliot returned figures of 10-1-35-6 which turned the match in our favour. However, S&L were up with the run rate and their number 3 Ajaz Hussain was having no trouble with scoring. At drinks Harry Knibbs gave us all a bit of a talking to about the win was not going to come easily and that we may have to crawl over the line - it was inspired and we picked up. Needing to get Ajaz out we tossed the ball to Mitchell Boffin and in his first over clean bowled him and won the match for us.
With that win, we move ahead of S&L in the league table.
With all the great performances today, the performance of the day was to Lee Willis. 40 overs in a lid in the heat with only 4 byes. Get in that hot-tub boi!!
See y'all next week.
