The Legends took on S&L Corby. S&L have been in a good vein of form recently and we looked forward to a good contest.
Losing the toss, S&L decided to bat and we opened with the Orton gene pool. Lewis bowled his first spell incredibly well for his 3 wickets for 9 runs as did his brother and it took 17 overs before the first boundary was hit. Mitchell Boffin and Harvey Cooke continued to apply the pressure and keeping the run rate well under 2 an over. Mitchell bowled an excellent spell taking 3 wickets, but we had to leave it to Adam Willis to clean up the tail - which did a bit of wagging. S&L finished on 144 which was a total we felt comfortable chasing down.
The innings did not start well for the team's top run scorer who was judged to be LBW to a ball that hit above the knee roll standing a foot outside the crease. However, Adam Willis (13) and Kimi (21) batted very industriously to get the score moving and build a solid base to win the game. A standard HHCC middle-order collapse ensued but Mitchell (19) and Lewis (15) looked like they were going to get us over the line. Despite grinding out an excellent performance and support from Dave Cooke we once again came up a bit short.
Irrespective of the result the Legends bowled out a team of men using only our U14 and U13 bowlers and the runs came exclusively from the juniors. That is what the 4ths are all about. As we move towards the last 2 games of the season it is only what we learn from the season that matters. Remember - incremental progress leads to long-lasting results.
A big thanks to Dick Steff, who despite being in hospital the week before prepared the wicket and outfield for us.
Peace out
