Playing the division leaders were never going to be an easy afternoon but what we focused on was making sure the 4ths had some great performances - an we did.
Losing the toss we put Mears Ashby into bat. Lewis Orton drew first blood with a great catch from Matt Dobson and Elliot Cantrell (10-2-22-1) put the pressure on the division leaders who were finding it harder and harder to score. It got worse for them as Miles Orton took a wicket with his first ball in men's cricket. Steadily Mears Ashby pulled back and finished on 217 for 8.
In reply Horton's opening pair started positively, however were halted slightly when the captain was triggered just about as he was settling into his innings. A solid batting performance from Matthew Dobson (18) and a quick fire 23 from Chris Archer kept the scoreboard ticking but it was never going to be enough as the tail struggled to contribute.
Despite losing the game, it was a super performance to restrict the division leaders to 200 runs. By their own admission, they were looking to score over 300 runs. Again a strong bowling and fielding performance and plenty of positives to build on. As the skipper - a very proud day of how we all stuck to the task.
We go again next week against the Old Grammarians at Emberton CC
