The Legends were home to Barton Seagrave. In the previous fixture they put over 300 runs on us so we made sure we had plenty of spare balls.
Losing the toss Horton were put into bat with Barton clearly looking to bundle us for a low total. JJ and Mark Glover had different ideas - on a sticky wicket they put on 70 runs for the first wicket. It was set-up for a good total with some big hitting from our middle order. Unfortunately, that did not happen but with some positive batting from Alan Pitt and Elliot Cantrell we got to 135 for 6 in our 40 overs.
At tea we were buoyed by how well the other teams were doing and that made all that Cherry Steff cake slide down even better.
Barton Seagrave had enough firepower to get the runs in 10 overs as they demonstrated last time we played them, so the plan was to take all pace off the ball. Once again Viggy (10-1-31-1) and Elliot Cantrell (10-1-30-2) stood up to the plate and we manage to apply pressure to the Barton batsmen who were constantly behind the run-rate. Tom Hilton (5-1-13-2) has an incredible spell. However, 50 runs in byes and mis-fields ultimately cost us the match with Barton getting the runs in the 32nd over.
Despite the result, looking at the opposition from our previous encounter Horton had a 300% improvement in runs and a 200% improvement in wickets. It is all about learning our craft for the years ahead.
Also a big thanks to Adam Willis who scored for us today. Get well champ!!!
