The Legends had one of many debuts planned for the 2021 season with Harry Bennett-Sulsh opening the batting with now senior partner Adam Willis relegating a well know batsman to number 11. This was a justified selection as Harry and Adam set to work building a great foundation for us. We saw early doors that the pitch had some demons in it and Harry, probably unaccustomed to lower-division cricket got bowled by a pea-roller. In came Canary fan and new dad Graham "the Chadders" Harris, who with Adam started to push the run rate with some Bryson DeChambeau hitting to all parts of the ground. With the pitch spitting Adam and Paul Wolstenholme we out to more the pitch than anything else and in came what can only be described as a slugfest from Ishtaq Hussain (47-31balls), Harry Knibbs (42-23 balls) and Finley Moffet (54-21 balls). It was getting close to Chadders 100 but at 96 he decided to chip the ball to the only fielder that could catch and he struts into the changing rooms destroying everything in his way - oh no - Covid so he went to the "designated area" and opened his packed-lunch.
With 293 on the board, it looked like a good total to defend, but as experts in taking defeat from the jaws of victory, we decided to open with Harry and Mitch (I don't want to field in the deep) Boffin. Harry soon has 2 wickets and Mitch had 4 and Adam and Finley mopped up the tail. As the last wicket fell to Harry "Bucket hands" Knibbs in a slight anti-climax the Legends won. It has been a while since the 4ths have put such a strong performance together and we hope that it bodes well for the rest of the season.
I am personally delighted that the 4s are back after the hiatus of 2020 and hope that we bring through more and more players from the juniors to the seniors.
