U11 Rockets v U11 Phoenix

The opening fixture of the U11 Northampton and District League pitted the Horton Rockets vs the Horton Phoenix. On a glorious day for cricket at Denton Road, we were treated to some high quality batting and bowling from both sides. Phoenix won the toss and elected to field. The opening pairing of Kian and Ethan got the Rockets off to a solid start scoring 18 and 17 respectively with no loss of wickets. Both batted positively, running well and looking for the gaps. Eeshaan and Jacob were next in and they kept the scoreboard ticking over with some good hitting and sensible running. The third pairing of Noah and Alex were faced with some good bowling but both defended well and hit the bad balls when available. Alex scored 23 including some big hitting to all parts of the ground. Sam and Jared brought the innings to a close with some controlled and entertaining shots. Rockets ended the innings on 154-3.

The Rocket’s bowlers were met with some determined resistance but wickets from Eeshaan (1), Alex (1), Jared (3) and Ethan (1) reduced Phoenix to 129-7 from their 16 overs. 2 catches and a run out from Ethan capped a solid performance. Catch of the day was from Alex who took an excellent grab diving low to his right.

Overall the boys did really in their first game of the season. Despite a determined chase by Phoenix, they stuck to their task and deserved their victory in the end. Onwards and upwards.
