Drama at Denton Rd

The weather forecast was looking pretty bleak with rain expected all morning but the Denton Rd micro-climate was kind to us and the sun shone for most of the game. Today’s captain was Ethan who won the toss and decided to bowl first. This proved to be a good decision with all the boys bowling well and sharing the wickets (6). Harry bowled quickly and accurately picking up 2 wickets. Alex, Noah, Jacob and Sam all picked up a wicket each. As a team, the boys fielded really well. The walking in, backing up and anticipation were all on point and the result was a relatively low score from St Crispin’s. One of most encouraging features of the fielding was the constant encouragement from all the boys as well as the way they celebrated their bowling successes as a team.

The Rocket’s response with the bat got off to a good start with the opening pair of Harry and Noah getting us off to a solid start with some clever shots and good running. The next 2 pairs were met with some accurate and tenacious bowling and we struggled to deal the straight ball losing regular wickets. By the time the final pair of Ethan and Alex came to the crease, the game was really in the balance. What followed was a fantastic display of controlled, aggressive batting from both boys which saw the team home by just 2 runs. Great effort!

Todays win was celebrated enthusiastically by the team and it was clear to see that they’re all playing for each other. Next up a big challenge against Stony Stratford.
