After a tough result against Stony last weekend, the Rockets took to the road for an away match at Brixworth. A blustery but dry morning set the scene for what was hopefully a return to winning ways. The toss was won by Brixworth who elected to field first which suited skipper for the day, Jared.
The opening pair of Jeremy and Shula batted carefully losing just one wicket in their 4 overs. This allowed Sam to express himself, scoring 25 which included some lovely shots for 4. He was well assisted by Krish who ran well and played some careful shots into the gaps. Jared and Jacob were next in with Jacob scoring a season best 16 including a couple of boundaries off his cousin! The family bragging rights were evenly shared though with Jacob’s cousin bowling Jacob in his second over. Jared supported the Reynold’s onslaught with intelligent running and nicely timed drives. The final pair of Alex and Harry really went to town on the inexperienced Brixworth bowlers and added 54 runs between then with Harry scoring 35 with some imperious hitting. Alex hit an enormous 6 over square leg to hammer home our advantage. Rockets finished on 353-4 (net 153).
In response, the Brixworth opening pair put on 36 between them but were assisted by some nervous fielding from the Rockets and some uncharacteristic overthrows. Never a team to get down, what followed was some fantastic fielding which resulted in no less than 5 direct hits from throws! A great effort. The bowlers all bowled good lines with wickets for Harry, Alex, Jeremy, Jared,Krish and Shuja. The regular fall of wickets meant that the Rocket’s total was never in danger and a convincing win put us back on track following last week’s hiccup.
Next up Cogenhoe away.
