An away match at Kislingbury Temperance and we were greeted with blustery and chilly conditions. Undeterred, captain for the day Harry won the toss and elected to bat first. As in previous matches, the openers (Harry and Noah) got us off to a solid start and set the platform for the subsequent pairs. Good placement and assertive running for the loss of just one wicket was just what the team needed. The next pair of Shuja and Jacob scored freely with Jacob getting his highest score of the season (17) with some excellent shots down the ground. The third pair of Albie and Freddie batted sensibly, placing the ball really well which they backed with some brilliant running. Their partnership of 38 without losing a wicket was a great effort. The final pair of Alex and Ethan provided the big hitting that we have come to expect with result being a formidable target for the Kislingbury team to try and chase.
The between innings chat focused on getting the job done through tight, accurate bowling and professional fielding. The team did not disappoint. The fielding was excellent and the bowling tight. Whilst we didn’t take as many wickets as would have liked, the economy rate from all the bowlers backed up by a team fielding performance meant that runs were few and far between. The outcome was a convincing 72 run win for the Rockets. James and I both thought that Jacob’s performance behind the stumps was his best of the season and this coupled with his batting meant he had his best game for the rockets yesterday. It’s extremely rewarding to see how this team has developed over the season so far. They get on well, celebrate one another’s success and enjoy their cricket. What more could you ask for as a coach?
We’ve got some big games coming up in the context of the league with a top of the table clash against ONs on 10th July. Please could I ask that Pitchero is kept as up to date as possible with your availability. This will make selection an easier process.
