we seem to be making a habit of this......

Another quality bowling and fielding display, a calm and disciplined run chase and a win in the last over with 8 wickets to spare.......same as last week really.
Brixworth batted first and George Leahy (3-1-8-0), Ben Meacham (3-0-12-1) and skipper Harvey Cooke (3-0-13-0) bowled tidily to restrict them to 45-3 after 10 overs. Some top quality bowling from Tom Hilton (3-0-10-3 - it should really have been 4 had I not reversed my decision to give a good low catch by George after consultations with the batsman, umpire, fielder, third umpire, VAR, Hawk-eye, the European Court of Justice...) and 4 run outs (all from direct hits) meant that they closed on 76-9 despite some big hitting from Devon Malcolm's son Jayden. Once again there were some strong bowling displays by Harry Bennett-Slush (spelling again probably - sorry! I will check and get it right next time), the very talented Vinny Keadell (2-0-2-1), Buddy Keightley, Ben Parker (who didn't bowl 4 overs - he will next time), Josh Denton and James Taylor-Lewis who bowled an excellent last over. A mention for Pip Thomson who kept for 20 overs when he really didn't want to but did a great job and was responsible for at least 2 of the run outs.
Again the instructions at the break were to see out the openers (including Malcolm Jnr) and get to the end of 6 overs with no wickets lost. Now I spend my life not being listened to by schoolchildren so it is really very gratifying that Harvey and last week's MOM Harry batted very sensibly and we were 22-0 after 6 overs and with the quality of Tom, Ben, George etc to come I was always confident that we would win. Another top knock from Harry (23) and some absolute class from Tom (30 not out) got us over the line with 5 balls to spare.
Just very solid and a step up in the quality of the oppo from last week - once we get Miles and Ollie back I reckon we can compete with the best at this age group. Man of the Match and the coveted bag of nutritionally tremendous, WADA sanctioned Maoam Pinballs went to Tom Hilton who really looks far too good for U13s.
Will be cheering on the Rams on Monday, Pete - enjoy Convent Garden!
