Under 13s v Kislingbury

This was a disappointing defeat but we had a very young side (we were missing 5 of our big players) and again we battled really well and had a chance of winning at the beginning of the last over. Jake Barnes made his debut for the Under 13's joining fellow Under 12 players Vin, Josh, Buddy Keightley, Harry Farbon and Kai Scott in the team. We batted first and struggled after Ben M and Harvey got out cheaply but I was really pleased with Ben Parker (17) and Vincent Keadell (13) who batted very sensibly and we closed on 70-6 off 20 overs.
We talked at the break about how we would have to bowl them out and field well to win and actually we very nearly did both of those things. Highlights were an outstanding spell of opening bowling by Ben - 4-2-5-2- (I could have given 4 lbws - I gave one - it would have been fun to see how the very lively away support had responded had I given them all....), a very good couple of overs from Buddy and some to be expected quality and brave spin bowling from Vinny (4-1-14-2) and Ben (4-0-18-2). Kislingbury got the winning run off the first ball of the last over. Again Pip Thomson kept wicket skilfully and kept the byes to a minimum.
Overall it was a good effort by a young side - man of the the match goes to Ben who will be a very decent cricketer.
We have ONs at home tomorrow which will be a much harder challenge.
