2 contrasting performances

2 match reports in one.
1/ Overstone away - really not great. We bowled and fielded pretty poorly and there was a real lack of energy in the field. They made about 50 more than they might have done. We batted OK (particularly Harry Bennett-Slush) but they bowled straight and with Harvey Cooke being caught about 300 metres outside the boundary (adjudicated to be within the outfield by a spectator who was a) conveniently located and b) conveniently related to the fielder (his dad)- all very irritating) we fell about 25 runs short. I don't have a hair dryer but I did have some stern words after our fielding about starting well, energy, looking like a cricket team, representing the club, momentum, giving yourself the best hope of winning blah blah. A bit irritating. Positives.....Freya Humphrey's bowling, the weather.....

2/ St Crispins - much better and we looked like a cricket team again (i.e. the ball didn't take 4 minutes, several conversations about Love Island and get dropped 3 times to get from the keeper to the bowler which was encouraging).
They batted first and batted well and reached 121 for 3 off 20 overs. We bowled well with Harvey (3-0-11-0) and Freya (4-0-12-1) the pick of the bowlers. A special mention for Freya who is a proper bowler - good pace, very accurate and a real competitor. She is leading the way with our bowling at the moment and showing the boys how to bowl straight and full. She has a habit of bowling about 3 yards behind the crease just to make it slightly more challenging and even more impressive.
We talked about batting sensibly for 20 overs and winning the game and actually we batted sensibly for 17.3 overs and won the game by 8 wickets. Tom Hilton did what he does (make 30 not out very easily and very stylishly), Harry BS did what he does (make batting look ridiculously easy and hit the ball very hard whilst grinning from ear to ear - I tell Harry sometimes to take his time, wait for the bad ball etc and then he creams one off middle stump through the covers at 150 mph...) and it was really good to see Ben M make a very patient, sensible and technically excellent 32 not out after a tricky run of knocks when probably only he doubted his ability as a batsman. Well done Ben. Freya made a sensible 7 not out and Miles hit a massive six in his 13 not out to see us to victory. Much, much better.
