Worth the wait to get the season started

The Horton u13s season got underway at the 4th time of asking with a strong display in their win over Northampton Saints, avenging a narrow loss from last season.

With Denton Road looking at it's best on a warm sunny evening, Harry BS and Anvit got the u13s off to a flying start with the bat. Although some early wickets fell, there was positive intent throughout the innings. Anshul joined the skipper and the runs continued. With both retiring Thanush kept the momentum going and was well supported well by the lower middle order. 118 seemed above par at the break.

With the ball Thanush and Niam started the response tightly. Harry A had a tremendous spell earning figures of 3-1-7-1. Anshul completed a great all-round performance going for 2 runs in 2 overs.
Joey had another decent display behind the stumps and everyone else got a bowl without necessarily the reward they deserved as Saints fought back to make for a more tense finish than it could have been. The key lesson from the game was for the team to go in to T20 mode with the field when the opposition takes the game to them (it is a T20 after all). A particular mention for the 3 debutants who fitted straight in to the team and there was a lot of maturity throughout the side in supporting teammates and conducting themselves positively with the opposition.

A trip to ONs next week should be another good test for the guys and an opportunity to build on the very encouraging opening performance.
