Overstone vs H.H.C.C. U15's ‘A’

This Wednesday we travelled to Overstone for our first away game of the season and once again enjoyed a pleasant sunny evening for our match. Back to a full team this week we had positive expectations for a good match and potentially a return to winning ways, although never underestimate Overstone!

After winning the toss, Ben put the opponents into bat. Overstone made a strong start, accelerating past the 50 mark in the ninth over, without loss. Taking nothing away from Overstone excellent display of batting, it was fair to say that lady luck was not on Horton’s side with numerous opportunities dropping between fielders or just out of range of our fielders. During the second half of Overstone’s innings, we did manage to pick up a couple of wickets, resulting in their final score of 165 for 3. Horton’s bowling was defiantly not firing on all cylinders this evening and it is fair to say too many byes & too many wides (something for everyone to work on at training)!

A positive batting performance was now required and at the end of the 3rd over that what we had, but the next over brought a double wicket maiden, and wickets continued to tumble in quick succession. Tom steadied one end with a strong innings of 33 before retiring, but at the other end wickets continued to fall. The 15th over saw Oli (27no) & Ted(21no) come to the crease and pull together a great partnership of 48, which included 7 well struck boundaries between them. Sadly, this wag in the tail was never going to be enough and we ended the innings on 124 for 8 and unfortunately another loss.
